The Show
The Writers Edd Turner and Chris Symons met at Birmingham university in 1999, where Edd was studying Theology and Chris was studying Philosophy. They were both members of the “Guild Musical Theatre Company” and performed in countless shows together including Tristan Baker’s production of “Little Shop of Horrors”. Before they met Edd had written one musical with lyricist Alex Stebbings “The Shattered Grail” (performed at “All Saints’ Arts Centre” 1998). Meanwhile Chris was writing poetry. The first show they wrote together was “Funny Man” (performed at the “Incognito Theatre” 2004), a surreal comedy about the ghosts and spirits, which inhabit theatres. It was for this production that they first teamed up with Director, Tim Longman (A veteran actor of countless professional and amateur shows including old time musical hall with the company “London Pride”) and Choreographer, Charlotte Mckay (A professional performer who is now married to Edd). Both continue to make up the backbone of the team, which Edd and Chris’ are eternally grateful to for staging their shows. Their second musical was “Exodus” (performed at the “Millfield Theatre” 2006) which was based on the Biblical story and boasted a huge cast, which included students of the “Suzi Earnshaw Theatre School”. “Missiah” is the latest musical to be written by this partnership and Chris and Edd have many more ideas in the pipeline. The rights to the shows are held exclusively by Chris and Edd but are available to other companies to stage. Chris (top right) now works as a subscriptions intermediary whilst Edd (bottom right, standing up) is training as an Anglican Priest. Missiah at The Bull Theatre The show in London was a massive success and went almost without hitch, it was received incredibly well and was met with huge amounts of emotion and praise for the whole cast, and the team that worked so hard behind the scenes. Wiz would like to thank all who came to the performances and hope that you will tell your friends that Missiah will be back soon at a theatre near you. |
